Sources and Methodology

How the Pocket Shark site is generated, what the source data is, and how pages are selected for indexing.

The site is generated from the same local shark catalog used in the app, then reviewed with additional species research where available. That source model is useful for consistency, but it also means some entries are stronger than others.

Primary inputs

  • The bundled shark catalog used by the app.
  • Structured species research merged into the catalog where scientific names or verified aliases match.
  • App metadata such as support, privacy, and App Store links.

Indexation policy

The public index stays focused on the pages that are most useful on their own. Pages with weak factual coverage, duplicate framing, or obvious placeholder values are kept out of the main guide until they are rewritten or merged into stronger hubs.
